Chris Town has enjoyed a varied career in NHS management spanning over 35 years, gaining extensive experience in various roles at a senior level in primary, community and secondary care. Most recently he was appointed as “special adviser” to Anne Galbraith for the recent review of Community Pharmaceutical Services and is chair of the Electronic Prescription Service Implementation Board appointed by Connecting for Health.
Chris gained significant experience of joint/integrated working with social care and in health policy development, particularly in the Primary Care arena, working closely with senior civil servants, policy leads and ministers and has been actively involved in change management in the NHS. Chris was appointed by NHS Employers in 2003 to chair the new pharmacy contract negotiations, Chris continued in this role until the end of April 2007.
Chris was a member of, and latterly chaired, the GMS Contract Negotiating Team and was actively involved in working with the Modernisation Agency on implementing the new Contract. He was Co-Chair of one of the Children’s NSF External Working Groups and chaired the Information for Choice Task Group. A member of the NHS IT Ministerial Task Force, Chris also chaired the West Anglia Cancer Network for 4 years and led the merger of three networks to form the new Anglia Cancer Network.
